Looking for an arabic alphabet song

The alphabet song is one of the first things we teach children in preparation for reading. So there should be an alphabet song in Arabic, right? Wrong. There are many alphabet songs in Arabic. Here’s what happens when you try to find them on the internet.

At Bilinguish we are interested in languages and language learning. Some of our readers are polyglots and language teachers, some are just beginning to learn a new language, and some are somewhere in between. This year, one of our contributors is starting to learn Arabic from a “true beginner” level, posting about her successes and frustrations along the way, to see how far she gets in a year’s time.

Here are the alphabet songs referenced in this video:

Amazing video with mid-1990′s style graphics featuring letters doing everyday tasks such as painting, baking bread, and trimming a man’s mustache.

Bonus:

An amazing talking-fruit song:

And the alphabet explanation site that gives the letters and a word to go with each one:

I love the Sesame Street version.
Is there a particular tune that native Arabic speakers learn as children? Or does it depend on the country?

      • Not sure about the rest of the Arab world, but as an Egyptian (in my 7th decade!) this is the original song (and video) I grew up with :-) Someone has made a more modern version (posted above). It’s sung in Egyptian dialect…

  5. The singer is Syrian BTW but singing in Egyptian dialect as it’s traditionally been the main dialect used in songs/films/TV soaps etc.
